About the name Eloiza

Wiktionary records Eloiza as an old spelling of Eloísa, an alternative form of Heloísa, which is a borrowing from French Héloïse. According to Behind the Name, Héloïse probably comes from Germanic Helewidis, from heil, 'healthy, whole', and wit, 'wide'; the same source says the association with Louise has no etymological basis. Both spellings are almost always female, grew a great deal among women born from the 2000s on and, proportionally, are most common in Mato Grosso.
