The origin of the beginning Wel-, or Uel-, is uncertain, and so is the meaning of the whole name. The spellings vary between W and U at the start and between one and two Ls and Ss; all are almost always male and most frequent among those born in the 1990s and 2000s. In the 2022 Census, IBGE recorded 7,358 people named Welison, with a median age of 23.
