The Morfemário (morpheme list) of the Dicionário de Nomes em Uso no Brasil (Dictionary of Names in Use in Brazil) says that Juci- and Juce- are of uncertain origin and that -mara may come from a hypocoristic form of Maria, from the Hebrew marah, 'bitterness', or from the Tupi marã, 'bad'.
