About the name Jocimar
The origin of Jocimar as a whole is uncertain. The Morfemário of the Dicionário de Nomes em Uso no Brasil (Dictionary of Names in Use in Brazil) describes the beginning Jo- as a probable clipping of José and João, found in names such as Jocilene, and says the formative -mar may come from the Germanic mar ('glory, fame'), from a clipping of Maria, or from the noun mar. For the similar name Josemar, Guérios proposes a joining of José with an abbreviation of Maria. In the 2022 Census, IBGE recorded 9,764 people named Jocimar, with a median age of 41. Proportionally, it is most common in Espírito Santo.
