About the name Cassilda
The Dicionário de Nomes em Uso no Brasil, citing Machado (1981), derives Cassilda from Spanish Casilda, which would come from Italian Cassilda, of obscure origin, and breaks the name into Cass- and -ilda; the morphemary links -ilda to Germanic hild, 'combat'. For Casilda, Behind the Name says the meaning is uncertain and presents two hypotheses: an Arabic origin, perhaps from qaṣīda, 'poem', or a Visigothic name whose second element would be hilds, 'battle'. In the 2022 Census, IBGE recorded 4,572 people named Cassilda and records Casilda as a separate spelling. Both spellings are almost always female and, proportionally, most common in Paraná.
It has a double SS, the spelling under which the Dicionário de Nomes em Uso no Brasil has its entry; it also lists Kassilda as a variant.
